Removing trailer hitch from car
There is a hitch fastened to my car from the previous owner that is starting to annoy me. I want to remove it entirely. I'm talking about the part that is actually bolted onto the motorcar, not the brawl hitch (there isn't i). I don't know what tools I demand. I also asked a repair store to do it for me when I had it in for service, and they said they might be able to do information technology on the telephone, merely then information technology wasn't washed when I picked the car upward, so I don't know if they forgot (it wasn't on the work lodge) or if they couldn't do information technology for some reason. Is this something simple I can do on my ain at home without needing to jack the car upward or have special tools?

From what I've seen at work, they're usually but bolted by a few bolts. Depends on your vehicle, y'all might need to remove the spare tire and remove the muffler from a bracket to go at those bolts. If your vehicle is old, they might be rusted and need penetrant oil or need a torch for those bolts.

Depends on the automobile and if it was installed past the factory. It could just be a few rusty bolts or it could require removing the entire bumper reinforcement beam.
Your mechanic probably forgot to remove information technology, brand sure to remind them adjacent time.

It's going to depend on your auto. Look on youtube to see how it gets installed on you lot make of vehicle. Removing would just be the reverse.
On my automobile other parts of the automobile (exhaust i think) had to exist loosened and hung with a strap to install the hitch.

Go under the automobile and look, information technology will be pretty unproblematic to effigy out once you've got eyes on information technology.

Should exist iv-6 rusty bolts holding it on. Depending on the vehicle yous may have to remove the rear bumper and mufflers.
I helped a buddy install ane on his Subaru and it was pretty direct forward.

Enter your car info, download the installation instructions for your car and read it backwards.

You can put on some truck basics or a beaver receiver to it though. Or a bicycle hitch trailer attachment

As others accept said, it'due south typically not hard to practise but if information technology'southward been at that place for more than a few years, the bolts are probable rusted on and might have to be cut. I doubtable just to remove it, most garages might charge you one or 2 hours of labour (although it's not hard to do yourself (every bit long as the bolts aren't rusted / seized)). If information technology'due south rusted / seized, it could accept twice equally long or more. Personally, I don't call back it's worth spending any money on information technology (but we normally put hitches on most of our cars) but if you are determined to do it, I would go to UHaul as they are probably the ons with the almost feel.
